A New Chapter for Bethany Calgary: Redevelopment Underway
Since its founding in 1945, Bethany Care Society has been a trusted leader in continuing care. Now, we’re writing our next chapter with the redevelopment of Bethany Calgary in the neighbourhood of Hounsfield Heights-Briar Hill.
This transformational project will be a first-of-its-kind care home that sets a new standard for care for seniors and adults with disabilities. It is a place where every resident feels connected, comforted, and empowered to live fully—because everyone’s story matters.
The next Bethany Calgary design introduces a ‘homes with a home’ concept. Imagine a cozy neighborhood where each home has its own unique charm, creating a warm and personalized environment. This small home model reflects Bethany’s dedication to providing high-quality, person-centered care.
Highlights include:
Small-home living models: Each “home” includes 14 private rooms with shared dining and living spaces, forming distinct “neighbourhoods” that promote warmth and a sense of belonging.
Welcoming amenities: A bistro, outdoor courtyards, gathering spaces and themed enrichment areas provide opportunities for residents, families, and community members to connect and enjoy shared experiences.
Our care home community spaces are designed to encourage engagement and interaction with neighbours, families and friends.
Innovative, Holistic Care: Care delivery will be reimagined through innovation and technology while remaining grounded in Bethany’s holistic and inclusive approach to meeting every resident’s physical, emotional, and spiritual needs.
News & Updates
Honouring a Legacy, Building for the Future
Since its establishment in 1945, Bethany Calgary has been a cornerstone of the Hounsfield Heights-Briar Hill community, dedicated to providing exceptional care and support. Despite several renovations over the years, the original building no longer meets modern standards for care environments. This redevelopment marks the next chapter in Bethany’s mission to create caring communities and to ensure future generations receive care in a safe, welcoming, and innovative environment.
“Our new care home will reflect the latest in care models and facility design, while remaining true to our mission of serving Alberta’s seniors with compassion and excellence.”
- Jennifer McCue, President and CEO of Bethany Care Society.
Project Funding and Timeline
The Government of Alberta has committed $114.1 million to the redevelopment of Bethany Calgary. The Bethany Care Foundation is launching a $20 million capital campaign, inviting individuals, corporations, and philanthropic partners to help us create a modern, welcoming care home that will serve generations to come. Remaining funds will be sought through our capital campaign and financing.
This redevelopment is the result of years of planning and collaboration, with key milestones marking our progress toward the completion of a modern, resident-centered care home.
